Meg Hunt returns to outer space with her new picture book Reading Beauty, written by Deborah Underwood and published by Chronicle Books!

Set in the fanciful universe of Interstellar Cinderella, this picture book explores a kingdom of book lovers. When one day Princess Lex wakes to find all of the books have been taken away because of a fairy's curse, she leaps to action to find the culprit and bring reading back for all.

With the success of Interstellar Cinderella (not to mention Snow Bright and the Seven Bots to come!), Underwood and Hunt are creating a universe that challenges fairy-tale norms with sci-fi flair and puts curious and passionate heroines in the spotlight.

“This is a beautifully retold and illustrated version of Cinderella. The rhyming elements are solid and entertaining. Children will love to read the book again and again. I especially appreciated that twist ending, where Cinderella chooses friendship over marrying a young man she just met. The illustrations are so unique and beautiful, and I loved the diversity in characters. A real step-up from traditional fairy-tale retellings. Perfect for your STEM-loving or totally traditional princess. Highly recommended!”

“This modern retake on ‘Sleeping Beauty’ is an interstellar fairy tale that is vibrantly illustrated and fun to read-aloud. The rhyming text keeps the story lighthearted and lively. Lex is a brown-skinned protagonist and she and her Prince seem to jump off the page. The story shares a positive message about reading, helping others, and redemption… A great one-on-one read for caregivers, and perfect for group sharing in a library or classroom setting.”
