Each year for the past 21, the American Heart Association has turned to John Maggard for its highly visible mini-marathon poster. And each year John has delivered a product that exhibits a unique personality and distinguishes that particular marathon, the Heart Association and himself. People are drawn to John’s wit and trademark illustrative style that gives a realistic, yet slightly skewed view of the subject. That is why, along with the Heart Association, his loyal client list includes such prestigious names as PepsiCo, Mead, Compaq Computers and Time/Life, among many others. John graduated in 1976 from Miami University in Ohio with a BFA and has worked steadily as an illustrator since. His popularity and longevity are a result not just of his talent, but for another vital quality John possesses as well: Recognizing that rapid transitions often occur in the business of visual communication, he can quickly adapt to meet new needs. John stays on top of the business by constantly analyzing and seeking to comprehend the changing world around us. This leaves him with an intimate awareness of his clients’ visual challenges, and with new ideas and ways to meet those demands.
