Taking it to the next dimension!

August 10, 2008

Toy lovers and art lovers alike will awkwardly-somersault for joy when they attend this collaborative art show held by art-boutique favorites Fabric8 and Neon Monster…Each artist participating in the show will be showcasing a two-dimensional piece (painting, drawing, etc…) as well as a three-dee customization of either a Munny, a Qee, a Neighborwood figure, a Blow-up figure, or a Shawnimal Plushform figure. Those residing in San Francisco should all mark their Mayan and/or Gregorian calendars accordingly and check out this one of a kind arty party being held at both locations! The party schedule is as follows…

3-7pm @ Neon Monster
901 Castro St. @ 22nd

5-9pm @ Fabric8
3318 22nd St. @ Valencia

So don’t miss the chance to check out new work from folks like:

Andy Stattmiller, Ben Collison, Dave Crosland, Ken Kierns, Nate1, Phoneticontrol, Reuben Rude, Ursula Young, myself…and many more! However, if you miss the party…you don’t have to spend hours pulling your hair and smacking your head in a revolving glass door, heavens no! The show will run for approximately one month…so check it out either way!

And now, for my contribution to the show…

Buckety Wilfred and Jamcat are a great pair for the art lover…or guitar lover, or musically inclined animal lover in all of you. Jamcat is my two-dimensional piece, and Buckety Wilfred is my three-dimensional piece…he is made from a Shawnimal Plushform figure turned sideways and inserted into a painted clay base.

I’ll be in the bushes later if you need me…

Did this 8x8in painting for last month’s Landmark Show at Fabric8…I picked Dolores Park for my landmark theme, mostly because it’s my favorite SF spot to sit around and accumulate a serious sunburn while watching people play frisbee, compare bikes, pick up a prescription from the neighborhood shaman, or just dodge sneaky, hidden dog surprises in the grass! Squeeesh!

Live art @ Fabric8 7.26.2008

July 30, 2008

Fabric8 hosted it’s Mission Vinyl event last Saturday, which is a fresh combo of live DJ-action in the front of the store and live painting-action in the back patio…and some tasty BBQ action to boot! I joined in on a painting session with artists Reuben Rude, Andy Stattmiller, and Phoneticontrol…who all have very unique styles. I focused on painting a character on top of a collaged canvas that Reuben made earlier that day…a real fun piece to be a part of. For those of you that are not familiar with Fabric8, check out their website or their blog…they are easily the best art boutique in SF…and stopping by in person to see the well designed store will surely confirm that!

One, two, three, look busy everyone!

Can’t a grown man work on his puppet show over here?

July 21, 2008

Here are some photo-documentations of the “Touch Base” puppet show performance on July 26th. It was a raucous night of laughter, confusion, frantic puppetry, and plenty of SF-based talk show banter! Thanks to those who came out on weekend night to witness the wiggly-paper-puppety comedy stylings of Grant and Pat, the duo formerly known as Parse.

Buncha Freaks!

July 17, 2008

Man, i’m outta here…can’t believe I used to think this crowd was cool. You know, the lifestyle did seem enticing for a while…but I digress, it’s bad for my health, I reckon. They lure you in with their apparent coolness, but honestly, that quickly fades into total blandness. I just don’t feel comfortable around here anymore. It’s back to the old tried and true routine of watching the evening news with a box of Matza crackers and some carbonated water. It’s bland too, but at least it’s safe. That way, I know that I probably won’t be in any danger of fireworks shooting into my eyes or having battery-operated race cars bang into my sensitive ankles. Besides, it’s three in the afternoon on a Tuesday! They really got me brainwashed…what was I thinking? I need to go get my e-file on.

Mixxdown!

July 14, 2008

Mixxdown commercial rap from Touch Base with Gregg Sween…

Yo, cruisin’ around and drinkin’ Mixxdown
Diggin’ that sound and drinkin’ Mixxdown
Rockin’ the crowd and drinkin’ Mixxdown
Don’t let me catch you uptown without a Mixxdown!

I keep it real with a Mixxdown,
I pop the top when the beat drop,
my crew do the same and it don’t stop
Mixxdown is gonna wreck shop
on them wack sports drinks that claim our props

cause we be cruisin’ around and drinkin’ Mixxdown
Diggin’ that sound and drinkin’ Mixxdown
Rockin’ the crowd and drinkin’ Mixxdown
Don’t let me catch you uptown without a Mixxdown!

July 13, 2008

Jobo Jonez (top row, far right) and the South Hill Seven is the house band for Touch Base with Gregg Sween! Hand drawn, and then finished in Adobe Illustrator. These were printed out and manufactured into paper doll puppets for the performance…which took place this past Friday at Fivepoints Arthouse in North Beach, SF…
