Grant Gilliland

  • Bio:

Grant Gilliland is an illustrator and character designer based out of San Francisco, California. He spends most of his free time thinking about funny proportions and animals with personalities. He can also lift about 500 sharpies, no spotter.

Grant grew up in Dayton, Ohio, where he spent about 90% of his time reading Juxtapoz magazine or drawing cartoons when he was supposed to be doing math homework. Grant's disinterest in school ended abruptly after enrolling at The Columbus College of Art & Design, where he earned his Illustration BFA in 2005.

A post-grad illustration career was initiated with the launch of Grant's blog The Gross Uncle in 2006. Serving as a platform for his wild style and humorous writing, the blog garnered him interest from early clients like JibJab and SF Weekly. Teaming up with Scott Hull Associates in 2007, Grant has since worked with major clients such as Weekly Reader, The United States Postal Service, Christopher Chadbourne and Associates, and Frog Design.

    June 19, 2007

Well, at least not on any of these hills…I would check about a quarter mile NORF-west and see if you can’t maybe just coast off fumes until you get to the next Beddin Breakfuss…I hear they do a real good job of making bis-kits and I hear they put them under your pillow instead of [...]

    Mitchum Misselpance

    June 11, 2007

Usually characterized by earth tone prickly-sweaters and free dentist office-issued sunglasses, Mitchum became the poster boy for an already growing recreational movement organized by the Not Doin’ Nothin’ No More Neighbors of Nearly Nobody (or NDNNMNNN), a group that dedicated their time and efforts towards playing board games and growing interestingly-patterned facial hair. Hailing from [...]

    June 7, 2007

Only just trying to have ONE martini in the shade and a little smooth dog with a long name decides to make nice with the backside of my head…I’m never coming back to this place again. Besides, the bushes have weak amounts of discarded juice boxes and half empty beers, I can get those by [...]

Esschews me,I recognize that one from my garden, there’s no sense hiding it.
