Wealth Manager Magazine, “Parachutes”

May 29, 2008

This piece was for an article geared toward financial planners and how they can help their clients weather this downturn of the current market. How do you make that look fun to read? Action baby… Action. The financial planner is handing out parachutes to his clients who are sailing downwards (and happily it looks like). :) Safe landings!

Portland Monthy, “Sizing Up Future Son in Law”

May 29, 2008

portlandmonthly_cabin.jpg

This was a fun piece to do. The story was about a guy who was spending the weekend at his future father in law’s cabin. He had to proof himself under that scrutiny of manliness. So I thought it would be fun to show the father in law as about the same proportion as the mountain… and the poor son in law as a tiny little thing being watched.

Brio Magazine, “4th Annual Challenge Calendar”

May 29, 2008

I worked with Art Director Sally Dunn on this super fun calendar. The challenge was fitting a teen-age girl figure into a small space in the header. We tried several options (bike riding, a crop of her face) until we stumbled onto this one, which I think works very well.

Then came the icons. I love doing icons. They have to be really simple and succinct and I like that challenge.

Here’s how everything turned out:

SF Chronicle, “Bubblegum”

A new illustration for SF Chronicle’s “My Word” section. The story was about a little boy who loved gum… everything else around him melted away and he was content as could be just chewing his gum.

I had a lot of fun with these warm colors… I love orange and pink right now.

Indianapolis Monthly – “baby corn”

April 5, 2008

babycorn_sm.jpg

This little sweet corn baby was for a job for Indianapolis Monthly. The story was about fertility in the Hoosier state, and immediately my mind went to the corn fields and lovely farm land in Indiana. Getting that baby’s face just perfect took about 3 tries. :)

Target – Mother’s Day Giftcard

April 5, 2008

Another Target Giftcard… this time for Mother’s Day. This is fun because it is a giant magnet. The gift card portion pops out and you have a frame to hang on the fridge leftover. Sweet! And pink! :)
