Case Study: The Great American Ball Park

September 22, 2008

Great American Ballpark

The Situation:

-The Cincinnati  Reds were building a new stadium

-Future taxpayers were hesitant towards the stadium due to tax increase.

-Old memories had to be maintained while establishing a new era.

Our Strategy:

-Show the fans that the city understands their concerns.

-Create art for the ballpark’s logo, exterior bas-relief, and two murals, all created by Illustrator Mark Riedy.

-Showcase that the great teams in Reds’ history translate to artwork.

-Capitalize on the rich history of the Great American Ballpark.

Results:

-The entire visual identity, both inside and out, was created for the ballpark.

-Won the approval of skeptical fans.

-Artwork was created in a similar fashion to those created in the 1930’s, invoking a well-needed dose of nostalgia.

-Entryway to the stadium is the most photographed area of the entire city.
